Are You Supposed to Hold a Scared Baby Iguana
- #ane
Hi i recently spent a few curt months with an iggy. I now went and have my own iggy. His name is yoshi lol. He is a babe i would say well-nigh a month quondam crusade of how pocket-size he is never seen them so tiny. Anyways he is pretty much at-home and not flighty. At present when i hold him i wanna let him roam simply am scared. is this a bad idea? I don't desire him to run from me because i know they are fast and i dont wanna stress him out. too he is and then minor he could probably fit under the crack to my door and enter the hallway. So when yous handle babys what exercise you practice and dont do?

Congrats on Yoshi and I hope we will run into some photos of him.
Information technology is important to commencement win his trust before you handle him - hold him. Nigh iguanas simply tolerate their owners and that is non a nice relationship to take. Babe iguanas are extremely squirmish, run like crazy to get away and are scared of the world. When you say Yoshi is calm then 99% of the time it means that your temperature inside the cage are also cold. At his historic period y'all must have one heck of a fourth dimension to effort and take hold of him and afterward catching him he must go on crazy to go abroad, that is normal. Requite me a run down on the muzzle with a photo delight and so we tin check if everything is perfect and you lot wont have whatever problems later on.
What blazon of UVB lite do you lot use and how far abroad from the basking expanse is it? What is the temperature nether the basking light and with what practice you measure out it? What is the ambient temperature in the cage? What type of cage is it?
To reply your question, I used to sit down with Wood in the bath with a towel pushed under the door. I let him sit on my lap and so clime off by himself when he was ready to explore. During these 1 hour sessions I used to pick him upward and put him back on my lap every now and then until we got to the indicate of him not running abroad anymore. Here is how I did it: Taming and socializing your iguana

Well i Just got him yesterday all the other iguanas were flighty and jumpy little guys although he is much more tolerant than they were. He is in a 60 gallon aquarium tank. His basking is at 96 degrees F. the ambient temp is 82 im using a digital thermometer with a probe sitting at the basking spot. I have a 4ft shop fixture with a reptisun 10.0 bulb in it sits almost vi to eight inches from the basking spots. Is 96 degrees to hot for the lilliputian guy? I accept 2 plants in at that place that he hangs on at each side 1 on the basking side the other at the cool side. I need to get like a few big sticks and possibly a log information technology still looks and then roomy/empty in there. And the picture of your Iggy is about the same size as mines you said yours was about 5 days onetime huh? I guess mines is anywhere from a few weeks to almost a month. Besides i put newspapers up on the side of the tank do you think i should exercise the back? he is upward against the wall and the wall is white or should i still embrace information technology? I also have a few humidifiers could i simply plough i on beside the tank in my room? will this exist fine? Right at present i am misting him and the cage downward every 4 hours to proceed humidity up

Thank you dimzel I will mail service pics of him. Perhaps tomorrow. I dont think he has eaten yet is this normal? I left him his food all solar day an tin't tell he touched it. he has non made a basin motion since i got him friday afternoon. Saturday I put him in the tub in luke warm watr for about 10 minutes. If yoshi doesnt wanna swallow an get big and potent how can nosotros fly to the moon?
Yoshi is bluish he tin fly acquiring any koopa shell before we attempt koopas palace he must grow big and strong
. Besides he has a nose rub that has blackened the front of his face up. Hopefully this falls off soon and starts to heal.

here is the enclosure equally of now yes i know its very empty. I have to look around online for supplies. My petco only has logs an the little hanging plants sort of like the ones in the flick and the jungle vine. I live near the woods. How could i get virtually cleaning a nice long big stick for him so he tin can climb up and downwards on, rather than getting him a basking log that petco carries. They take very limited shopping when it comes to iguanas. Even the enclosures where screen cages where it lets all the humidity an rut out. Nothin how thin an empty he looks might be a little dehydrated too.

Well i Simply got him yesterday all the other iguanas were flighty and jumpy little guys although he is much more tolerant than they were.
That explains it, he is scared stiff that is why he is non running yet.
You must non handle him at all for the side by side two weeks, leave him completely alone to settle in. He is highly stressed from the movement and stress cause their allowed organisation to end functioning. If yous handle him now and so he can become sick and parasites can first to flourish.
He is in a 60 gallon aquarium tank. His basking is at 96 degrees F. the ambience temp is 82 im using a digital thermometer with a probe sitting at the basking spot. I have a 4ft store fixture with a reptisun 10.0 bulb in it sits about 6 to 8 inches from the basking spots. Is 96 degrees to hot for the little guy?
For a baby y'all need to go along the temperatures at the high terminate. Basking temp at 100F, ambient 90F.
Iguanas take a problem with white then yeah it if you can comprehend the white wall with something else then go right ahead.
I likewise accept a few humidifiers could i just turn one on beside the tank in my room? volition this be fine? Right at present i am misting him and the cage downward every 4 hours to keep humidity upwards
Can you attach a hose pipe to the humidifier and direct the mist into the cage through the height?
I dont remember he has eaten still is this normal? I left him his food all solar day an tin can't tell he touched it. he has not made a bowl movement since i got him friday afternoon.
Cover the one-half of the cage where the food goes with a coating or sheet or even stick newspaper over the drinking glass so that he has complete privacy in that corner. When you go and purchase more stuff for the cage so you need to put fake plants in the forepart so it covers the glass and he can hide behind it. It must feel as if y'all cant see him simply he can come across you.
VERY Important practice not plate the nutrient the way yous have it in the photo. ALWAYS mix all the greens, veggies and fruit together and so he can not pick out something he likes. Iguanas are extremely picky eaters and if you have the problem ones then it stays for the residue of his life and will leave you with many sleepless nights. Mix them up adept.
Buy probiotics and sprinkle it over his food.

No information technology is not normal that he still hasn't eaten anything. Yes it is time to worry.
I can 100% assure yous the reason is considering your cage is non warm enough. If he stays on the basking branch without moving and so it is because he does non heat up enough to feel the demand to go to a cooler expanse. You accept to gear up this problem immediately.
What are you using equally a basking light?
What do y'all apply to measure the temps and what is the reading under the light?
What type of UVB are you using?

my Uvb light is in a 4 ft florescent fixture. The lite is a reptisun x.0 tube and it sits virtually eight inches above the basking area. the heat light is a 65w bulb and the basking temp is well-nigh 96 degrees f. the ambience temp is 83 degrees. I wouldn't know how to put a shelf in there or to take something propped upward so high that he could sit on and make it stable enough that information technology will not fall. I don't want him to starve his self. Is it normal for babies to become this long with out eating or even pottying I am worried for my picayune friend.
this is the the thermometer and lights i utilise the basking calorie-free is a 65w element of group vii bulb every bit showed in the thread linked for basking lights. Im thinking its the way everything is setup i need to practice some re arranging.

Thank you everyone for the helpful tips. I simply Put a hanging plant in the middle of the tank on the wall and a large branch i chopped off the tree i baked it for thirty mins at 300 degress. I put it in the tank leaning up on the side and most v minutes afterwards the constitute an log were put in he came down to explore these new things firstly stopping to get something to eat
. I also put a large tubberware of water in the heart to help with humidity. So at present that i let him go use to his enclosure for the next 2 weeks does this mean i don't take him out to bathe him?
